EVERETT – A fire spread from a detached garage to a home near Evergreen Way this afternoon, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage, Everett firefighters said.
Investigators believe fire was accidentally sparked and involved welding in the garage, Assistant Fire Chief Glen Martinsen said. Nobody was injured.
Crews responded to the house on the 6500 block of Fleming Street about 1:45 p.m., after 911 callers reported smoke and flames, Martinsen said. Firefighters put out the flames and searched to make sure nobody was inside.
Two families live in the wood-framed house, he said. A parent and a child sleeping inside escaped after waking up and seeing flames coming from the garage, where the welding had been taking place.
The people who live in the house told authorities that family members in the area would help with their immediate needs.
