ISSAQUAH — Foes of a plastic shopping bag ban in the east Seattle suburb of Issaquah have submitted petition signatures in support of an initiative. They seek either a repeal of the ordinance or a citizens’ vote.
The ban took effect in March.
The Seattle Times said that Craig Keller of the Save Our Choice repeal campaign said he submitted more than 3,400 signatures on Friday.
Keller said he has calculated that 2,843 valid signatures are required under state law.
The Issaquah City Council voted last year to ban most plastic shopping bags and require retailers to collect a 5-cent fee on paper bags.
