Knit in public

Saturday is World Wide Knit in Public Day. The Everett Public Library (2702 Hoyt Ave.) and the Evergreen Branch (9512 Evergreen Way) will hold “Knit Ins” with the Snohomish County Knitters Guild.

Children’s stories

Children can listen to stories and make crafts in the garden at the Arlington Library, 11 a.m. Saturday. The library is at 135 N Washington Ave. Other upcoming Children’s Storybook Garden events are set for July 8 and Aug. 12.

Free bike helmets

Molina Medical will give bike helmets to the first 120 attendees at an event set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 15 SW Everett Mall Way. There also will be a raffle for bikes and a scooter, smoothies, child ID kits and safety education, all free.

Preparedness fair

A free Preparedness and Safety Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive on Camano Island. See fire trucks and rescue boats, practice putting out a simulated fire, learn about disaster preparedness and more. There will be a free hot dog lunch, too.

ReadySunday offers disaster prep tips

Take steps to prepare for disasters with help from Snohomish County Fire District 1 at ReadySunday, a free event set from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at Community Life Center, 19820 Scriber Lake Road, Lynnwood. Learn how to turn off utilities, use a fire extinguisher, start a preparedness kit and work together with neighbors in times of disaster. There also will be samples of meals ready to eat (MREs). Northwest Church will offer a barbecue lunch by donation.

EvCC celebrates 75th anniversary

Everett Community College is celebrating its 75th anniversary year with a public reception, 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the college’s Walt Price Student Fitness Center. The campus is at 2000 Tower St. RSVP required. Everett Junior College opened its doors in September 1941 with 134 students. EvCC, which changed its name in 1967, now educates more than 19,000 students a year.

Sign up for Edmonds Fourth of July parade

The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce seeks families, groups and businesses to march in the Fourth of July parade. There will be six award categories, including Most Patriotic and Best Decorated. Registration is $25.

Meanwhile, registration is open for the Beat Brackett 5K, starting at 10 a.m. July 4 from City Park. New this year is a Baby Brackett 1K. Registration fees help fund the fireworks celebration.
