Build with balloons
Youth in fourth grade and up are invited to build blocks, structures and NASA-like systems — out of balloons. The Mariner and Snohomish libraries both will host the three-part class series in November. Registration is required.

Bottle cap art in Stanwood
Students in grades 4-8 are invited to make “Dia De Los Muertos Bottle Cap Art,” 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Registration is required because space is limited. Make fun and funky magnets and jewelry. Materials provided.

WAYS TO HELP
5k to benefit EdCC
The Edmonds Community College Foundation holds a 5k Walk and Run event Saturday, starting and ending at EdCC campus at 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. Proceeds benefit student scholarships, emergency assistance funds and innovation grants. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on race day. Cost is $35. The event includes live music, student vignettes and a costume contest.

Shoe drive for foster kids
Mattress Firm holds a shoe drive through Oct. 31 to benefit children served by Compass Health and Olive Crest. Bring in new shoes, for toddlers to teens, to any store location. The company has locations in Everett, Marysville and Lynnwood.

Student rep for Edmonds board
Edmonds seeks a student representative to serve on the city Planning Board, which makes recommendations to the City Council on plans and issues related to community development, including transportation, environment and housing. Students must live in Edmonds and be in high school or college.

Mill Creek neighborhood group
Mill Creek seeks volunteers to represent their neighborhoods on a focus group that will meet about four times a year. The first meeting is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at City Hall, 15728 Main St. RSVP is requested.
The city has about 100 neighborhoods.
