Teen entrepreneurs

Middle school and high school students are invited to learn how to start their own business at “Teen Entrepreneurs: Beginners in Business” on Monday at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St. The middle school session is at 4 p.m. The high school session is at 6 p.m.

Opening Day

The Everett Sail and Power Squadron hosts a free Boat Skills Festival, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on the dock adjacent to Port of Everett Marina’s Boxcar Park. The event features 45-minute seminars starting each hour on such topics as handling emergencies; crabbing and shrimping tips and techniques; galley provisioning and cooking on board; first aid; navigating the waters around Everett; boating safety for kids; and more.

In addition, sign up for a free vessel safety check, watch Whidbey Island Sea Kayakers demonstrate safe kayaking techniques, participate in knot-tying seminars taught by local Sea Scouts, enter to win free prizes donated by local sponsors, and enjoy refreshments from an on-site food truck.

The festival is just one part of an annual Opening Day of Boating Celebration, coordinated by the Mukilteo Yacht Club. Several events take place Saturday at the Port of Everett. This year’s theme is “Island Lifestyle.” The day’s activities include a blessing of the fleet at 10 a.m. at the party barge at North Marina Guest Dock 6. The decorated boat parade begins at noon, weather permitting.

River celebration

Bothell plans a Sammamish River Restoration Celebration, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Park at Bothell Landing, 9919 NE 180th St. Celebrate May Day and mark the first full year of the return of juvenile salmon to the lower Sammmamish River’s new off-channel habitat.

Talent show time

The Marysville Strawberry Festival features a talent show. The deadline to enter is May 7. Auditions will be held May 10-11. The show itself is set for 6:30 p.m. June 14.

New playground

The Frances Anderson Center playground is closed while crews tear it down to make way for new structures. Work is scheduled to start Monday and will last through May. Preview the new playground on the city’s website.
