Fire camp for kids
The Granite Falls fire department plans a summer day camp for kids the week of Aug. 15. The $25 camp is designed for children ages 7-12 and combines safety topics with fun activities. A one-day camp for younger children, 4-6, also is planned for Aug. 19. The cost for that camp is $5. Space is limited. Register by emailing Jennye.Cooper@gffd17.org.

Children’s parade: Children are invited to participate in the Lake Stevens Aquafest Children’s Parade on July 29. Families, church groups, preschools, pets, bikes, scooters, wagons and small motorized vehicles are all welcome. Children will receive a carnival ticket good for one ride, a book, pirate hat and, at the end of the parade, an ice pop. Staging begins at 5 p.m. in the triangle in front of the Fire Hall at Hartford and Grade roads. The parade begins at 6. Kitten season: Adorable, fluff balls are in abundance at the Everett Animal Shelter and available for adoption. Kitten adoption fees are $125, or $200 for two. The fee includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment and a microchip. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 333 Smith Island Road.
