The Jackson High School Jazz Ensembles will perform at the Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave., Seattle. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. March 25. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $20.

Performing are Jazz Ensemble 3, led by Chelsey Caldwell; followed by Jazz Ensemble 2, led by Kevin Hall; and Jazz Ensemble 1, directed by Lesley Moffat. Music department students at Jackson perform in school groups, community bands and orchestras and jazz combos from Mill Creek to New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Students in the jazz program are also members of the school’s large music ensembles and the majority are enrolled in honors and AP classes.

The Jackson High School Band Boosters host the annual Mill Creek Jazz Festival each November, a non-competitive festival that draws jazz bands from the Puget Sound region.

Shelter seeks funds for X-ray machine: The Everett Animal Shelter needs money to buy an X-ray machine.

Those kinds of machines for animals can run about $40,000, city animal services manager Shannon Delgado said.
