Kids’ fishing derby
A fishing derby for youths 12 and under is planned from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road, Marysville. The event is free but families are asked to bring a donation for Marysville Community Food Bank. Marysville Kiwanis will be offering a pancake breakfast for $5 per plate for adults and $3 for children. Prizes are awarded by random drawing at the conclusion of the fishing derby. Fishing poles are available for use. Organizers ask that people leave their pets at home.
Meet Jay Buhner: Seattle Mariner legend Jay Buhner plans to appear at the Everett Mall from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday to sign autographs, take pictures and shake hands with fans of all ages. Five winners will watch batting practice on the field with Buhner at a future game.
Art at Archbishop Murphy: Archbishop Murphy High School plans to turn its campus into a local art gallery for a day.
More than 500 pieces of art from students at 16 schools throughout Snohomish, Skagit and King counties will be on display from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Students from K-8 schools submitted drawings, painting, cultural art and printmaking.
Each student is chosen at his or her school to participate in the show, and receives an award of participation ribbon and a one-day family pass to the Seattle Art Museum. Professional artists select the art. The Archbirshop Murphy High community has donated more than $700 in prizes for the winning artists.
