Families may view a free showing of the IMAX movie “Beavers” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park, 600 128th Street SE, Everett.

The film is set in a pristine forest in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and follows the lives of a family of beavers as they grow, play and build.

Beavers are now found in streams in urban areas including Everett. Before the film, a presentation is planned about why beavers are great for trout and salmon.

Space is limited; you must reserve a seat in advance by calling 425-316-8592.

Meeting about Sultan garbage service: The Sultan City Council is scheduled to hear a presentation from Allied Waste about possibly contracting out garbage collection. The council is not expected to make a decision at Thursday’s meeting.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at council chambers, 319 Main St.

Currently, garbage recollection is done by the city. The presentation is intended for council to find ways to save costs.

Scouts on needles and limbs: The Boy Scouts of America Christmas tree recycling collection day is set for today.

Operation Dry Needles has been operating in Snohomish and Island counties for more than 20 years.
