Swamp Creek Bridge No. 546 on Carter Road west of Bothell will be closed to traffic and pedestrians beginning Thursday. Crews are replacing the bridge, which is east of Lockwood Road, and work is expected to continue into late fall or early winter. The old two-lane bridge was built in 1966 and has needed increased maintenance. It had a weight restriction of 16 tons.
The new bridge’s design is longer and wider. It includes sidewalks on both sides with shoulders for bicyclists.
The county is coordinating with the Northshore School District.
