Gov. Chris Gregoire intends to spend several hours Thursday signing bills into law.
A schedule posted on her web site Wednesday shows she will start to act on bills at 1 p.m. and continue signing through the afternoon then return at 6 p.m. to sign some more.
She’s gone several days without signing any legislation in hopes it would pressure lawmakers to strike a deal on a new budget. Yet there were few signs Wednesday that Democratic and Republican lawmakers were ready to announce an agreement.
In fact, the House and Senate are not meeting again until Friday — at the earliest. They’ve yet to meet this week..
Given the limited progress, maybe the governor plans to mix a few vetoes into the mix Thursday to keep things interesting. She issued that threat at the start of special session but has yet to veto a single bill in its entirety.
