Granite Falls Schools ask for $20.4M in levies

Voters in the Granite Falls School District will be asked to consider two replacement levies totalling approximately $20.4 million for the Feb. 11 special election.

The district’s operations and technology levies are expiring. The new property tax levies will replace the current ones for the years 2015-18.

Tax rates for both levies are approximately the same as the levies they are replacing.

The School Programs and Operations Levy supports programs and daily operations, including textbooks, library books, supplies, utilities, transportation and athletics.

It seeks to raise $4.4 million per year at a rate of $4.17 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation.

The Technology and School Improvements levy will fund the purchase of computers and other equipment, make safety, energy efficiency and other capital improvements to school facilities, and purchase major equipment.

It would raise approximately $642,000 per year at a rate of 60 cents per $1,000 of assessed property valuation.

If both measures pass, the owner of a $250,000 home would pay approximately $1,192 per year, roughly the same as now.

Ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 11 in order to be counted.
