Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire may not have wanted to raise taxes in her tenure but Friday she will be doing just that.
At 1:30 p.m. she is expected to sign into law nearly $800 million worth of tax increases.
Those dollars are projected to pour into state coffers in the next 14 months to help plug a $2.8 billion hole in the budget that runs through June 30, 2011.
I just wonder which lawmakers, if any, will be there to root her on.
She will be signing the $1 per pack hike in cigarette taxes that would kick in May 1 and the large package with its increases on beer, soda pop, candy, gum and bottled water as well as a higher tax rate on professional services.
