Gregoire to visit China, Japan on economy trip

OLYMPIA — Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire is traveling to China and Japan next week for meetings on the economy.

Gregoire said in a statement Wednesday that growing the U.S. economy will require close coordination with international partners.

She will first attend a forum that she says provides an opportunity to discuss economic opportunities between U.S. governors and provincial leaders in China. Gregoire is scheduled to visit with the governors of Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Gary Locke, Washington’s former governor and the current U.S. ambassador to china, is expected to host a reception for the governors.

Gregoire will then travel to Japan to meet with manufacturers that could potentially expand their presence in Washington.
