EVERETT — The American Red Cross in Snohomish County is seeking 500 local organizations to receive free software for emergency management and planning.
The software would help organizations such as schools, businesses and churches prepare for disasters and other emergencies, said Chuck Morrison, executive director of the local Red Cross branch.
Applicants could include groups that serve senior citizens or vulnerable populations, he said.
The software was donated by Depiction Inc., an Everett-based software company. The software licenses altogether are worth an estimated $15,000.
“We’re just impressed with the work Red Cross does and wanted to contribute something to help people get ready for emergencies,” company president Richard Smith said.
The software includes information about putting together an emergency kit. It can help people determine travel routes when roads are blocked before, during and after emergencies.
The licenses will be granted until they are gone, Morrison said.
