EDMONDS — An intoxicated man tried to wrestle an Edmonds police officer’s gun away from him Tuesday evening, according to a police report filed in court.
The man, who was staying at an Edmonds motel, drank almost a gallon of vodka over the course of the day, a witness told police. By evening, he was making a ruckus and slamming his head into walls at the motel in the 22100 block of Highway 99.
He ended up unconscious on a hallway floor. People tried to carry him to his room, but he fought. They pinned him to the ground.
Police and aid crews got the Eastern Washington man, 37, onto a gurney. He kept fighting. As officers struggled to keep him on the gurney, he reached out his left hand, grabbed the duty pistol of an officer and pulled, according to reports filed in Everett District Court. Officers punched him until he relinquished his grip.
An ambulance took the man to Swedish Edmonds hospital around 7 p.m. Medical staff gave him sedatives to calm him down, police said. Seven hours later, he was booked into jail for investigation of disarming a police officer, a felony.
