EVERETT — An Everett man who was sentenced to prison in 2007 after nearly killing an officer by crashing into a police car is in trouble again.
A judge in Everett District Court on Friday set bail at $250,000 for Alan Brian Waterman, 24. This time he is under investigation for allegedly possessing more than a pound of heroin.
“This is quite a character we have in front of us,” deputy prosecutor Janice Albert told the judge. When arrested, the suspect had $50,000 cash, much of it stuffed in a safe in his apartment.
The prosecutor said Waterman has 11 adult felonies and was recently released from prison.
Albert said Waterman told police: “Go ahead and book me. My homeboys will bail me out.”
In asking for the quarter-million dollar bail, Albert told the judge: “I think anything less than that, we won’t see him any more.”
Police and detectives from the Snohomish Regional Drug and Gang Task Force served a search warrant on two apartments in the same complex allegedly used by Waterman and his girlfriend, according to court papers. The apartments are in the 100 block of Dorn Avenue.
In one of the units, police found 325 grams of heroin in a toilet. Waterman’s girlfriend allegedly told police that he instructed her to flush the drugs, but the toilet clogged.
More heroin was found in the other apartment.
A pound of heroin typically sells wholesale at up to $15,000 between drug dealers, according to drug task force officials.
Waterman was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2007 after pleading guilty to vehicular assault and other crimes. He was 19 at the time.
He was driving a stolen Jeep Cherokee and fleeing from the scene of a burglary when he crashed into an Everett police officer’s patrol car. Officer Suzanne Eviston was pulled from the burning wreckage along with her police dog Axel. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she was treated for multiple broken bones.
Waterman admitted to smoking methamphetamine before he and two companions broke into a fenced area of a business.
