High-speed chase ends in arrest of Monroe man

SMOKEY POINT — A high-speed police pursuit wound through north Snohomish County on Tuesday morning before ending in the arrest of a 23-year-old Monroe man.

Two police cars were rammed during the chase. No serious injuries were reported.

The trouble started about 11:10 a.m.

Arlington police attempted to pull over a stolen 1992 Honda Accord at the intersection of Fourth Street and Highway 9, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

The driver took off northbound on the highway, she said. The chase lasted about 20 minutes and went through parts of Arlington, Marysville and Lakewood.

Marysville police, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies and Stillaguamish tribal police also got involved, Banfield said.

The stolen Honda at times reached speeds of more than 100 mph, she said. The chase ended when the suspect apparently parked the car at the northbound onramp to I-5 at Smokey Point and ran.

The man was arrested in that area, Banfield said. He was taken to Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington.

He later was expected to be booked into Snohomish County Jail for investigation of possessing a stolen car, felony eluding of a police vehicle and vehicular assault.

He is well known to police in the area, Banfield said.

One of the rammed Arlington police cruisers sustained substantial damage. Two officers suffered minor injuries, Banfield said.
