Homicide suspected in woman’s death in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS — Detectives on Monday were awaiting a judge’s permission to search a Lake Stevens home where a woman was found dead inside.

The woman is believed to be in her 20s, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Brand said.

“It appears she may have died of homicidal violence,” he said.

Lake Stevens police officers were summoned about 9:06 a.m. to a home in the 9200 block of 15th Street SE, a cul-de-sac just west of Highway 9. Somebody had called 911 to report finding the body, Brand said.

Lake Stevens police asked the Snohomish County sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit to take the lead on the case.

Police secured the scene and were waiting on the search warrant. It wasn’t clear if they would be able to go through the house Monday night or if they’d have to wait until morning, Brand said.

No arrests had been made.

“It’s really too early to release any more information because we don’t have it,” he said.

The woman’s body was expected to be taken to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will confirm her identity and determine how she died.

The case has no known connection to the June 1 drive-by shooting in Lake Stevens that took the life of Molly Conley, 15, of Seattle, Brand said.

The shooting took place about a mile and a half away from Monday’s death investigation.

Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 425-388-3845.
