Washington Army Reserve unit returns
More than 250 soldiers of the 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, a U.S. Army Reserve unit from Marysville, returned stateside after a year-long deployment to Kuwait.
The unit’s soldiers helped with the draw-down of American forces from Iraq, and moved more than 68,000 troops, thousands of vehicles and tons of equipment.
The soldiers of the 364th will be at Fort Bliss, Texas, for about 10 days, undergoing demobilization processing before going home. The unit contains Army Reserve soldiers from 39 states, two countries and one U.S. territory.
Air Force Airman 1st Class Jonah Myers graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Myers is the son of Lizabeth Myers of Everett. He is a 2007 graduate of Kamiak High School.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony Kubin, son of Judith Johnson of Marysville and Joseph Kubin, of Everett, is among the sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise who have formed a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions committee, a peer-to-peer mentoring program that helps sailors make positive decisions in their lives. Topics range from problems such as sexual assault to everyday issues such as car buying. Kubin is a 2007 graduate of Cascade High School of Everett. He joined the Navy in April 2008.
Other sailors involved in the mentor program include Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Melinda Ambers, daughter of Beverly Watkins of Oak Harbor, and Navy Lt. Cmdr. Ken Sanchez, a 1981 graduate of Oak Harbor High School who joined the Navy in January 1984.
