Sailors attend USS Enterprise ceremony
Three sailors from Island and Snohomish counties were among thousands of people who attended the recent ceremony marking the end of service for the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.
The warship, the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, recently completed its 25th and final deployment and returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia for its scheduled decommissioning. More than 100,000 sailors and Marines served aboard the Enterprise during its lifetime, which included every major conflict since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Recently serving aboard were Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony J. Kubin, Lt. Cmdr. Ken B. Sanchez and Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Melinda J. Ambers. The school offers a rigorous six-month course that trains officers and enlisted students in the science and engineering fundamental to the design, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants before aboard a nuclear-powered submarine. Daniel is the son of Jeniffer Daniel and Kevin Davis of Oak Harbor. He is a 2009 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.
