MUKILTEO — Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing voluntarily closed Wednesday for disinfection after reports of norovirus-like illnesses among some customers. It reopened Thursday for regular hours.
The Snohomish Health District said a small number of people reported being ill after dining at the waterfront restaurant on April 14. Also closed for cleaning Wednesday was the streetside Fish Bar take-out stand near the ferry terminal.
The health district said it was unclear if the illness was caused by food or contact with someone who was ill. Due to the relatively short duration of symptoms, lab confirmation was not available.
“The safety and well-being of our guests is our number one concern, we are thankful the reported illness did not require medical care, and we take reports of this nature seriously,” Bob Donegan, Ivar’s president, said in a news release.
Norovirus, often mistakenly called the stomach flu, spreads quickly by an infected person, contaminated food or water or by touching contaminated surfaces. Symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, headache, fever, chills and vomiting.
The health district said people should call the Communicable Disease Surveillance line at 425-339-5278 to report cases of illness at restaurants, schools, daycares and other spots where germs spread quickly.
