Keepers of time capsule to gather at state Capitol

OLYMPIA — For the Washington Centennial in 1989, then-Gov. Booth Gardner swore in 300 10-year-old children as keepers of the centennial time capsule.

Now adults, they are scheduled to reconvene for the first time in 24 years on Tuesday in the rotunda of the state Capitol in Olympia as Keepers of the Washington Centennial Time Capsule.

The purpose of the meeting is to plan what will be added to the time capsule when it is updated next year for the state’s 125th birthday.

The nonprofit Keepers of the Capsule organization was created in 1990 with the help of the secretary of state’s office.

The head of the group, Jennifer Estroff, told The News Tribune she wants to add music, including Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Macklemore.
