BELLINGHAM — A Bellingham man severely burned when he tried unsuccessfully to save his sister from a mobile home fire is doing better at a Seattle hospital.
Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Friday that 60-year-old Larry Manning remains in intensive care, but has improved from critical to serious condition.
Manning’s sister, 63-year-old Nancy Brink, died in the fire early Wednesday. The Bellingham Herald reported that he was unable to wake her as flames swept through her bedroom.
Firefighters have closed an investigation into the fire. They said it started somewhere on or in the bed, but the actual cause remains undetermined. The home had no working smoke alarms.
