SEATTLE — A Lynnwood man caught downloading child pornography on his work computer was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison.
Thomas Joseph Barrett, 50, worked for the Social Security Administration. He was arrested at work in January after an investigation revealed that he was using his office computer to download child pornography during work hours. Prosecutors alleged that he’d accessed more than 3,500 images on his work and home computers. The investigation also turned up evidence that Barrett had researched the criminal penalties for possessing child pornography.
The administration’s network and data were never compromised, authorities said.
Barrett will be under federal supervision for a decade once he’s released from prison.
