MUKILTEO — A 39-year-old man was arrested on a ferry heading to Mukilteo on Wednesday after reportedly pulling a knife on a child.
No one was hurt.
Around 7:40 a.m., the Washington State Patrol received a call about a ferry passenger who had brandished a weapon at a child. Troopers initially reported the weapon was a gun.
The suspect had accused the child of theft while the ferry was still in Clinton, said trooper Kevin Fortino with the Washington State Patrol. He displayed the knife somewhere in Island County waters.
The child’s age was not immediately available. Their relationship also was unknown.
Troopers detained the man. A knife later was found in the men’s restroom, Fortino said.
“It caused a lot of concern with commuters because they saw a lot of police presence and those police had their weapons pulled,” trooper Heather Axtman said.
That’s a typical response for such dangerous calls, she said.
The ferry resumed operations, though the investigation caused a 30-minute delay.
