EVERETT — A man struck on I-5 in Everett in March is recovering, but police still don’t know his name.
Washington State Patrol troopers have been working with Harborview Medical Center staff and the Consulate General of Mexico to identify the man, trooper Mark Francis said last week.
They believe they have a possible name for they man, but they need to confirm it before they can notify his loved ones, Francis said.
The man last week was still slipping in and out of consciousness. He has been able to speak a little in recent days but not much.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, has been at Harborview since the March 26 accident. His condition recently was upgraded to satisfactory, Francis said.
The crash happened while the man apparently was trying to cross the freeway about 5 a.m. near the 75th Street SE overpass.
A driver in a Ford F-150 pickup truck saw the man and tried to swerve.
The truck’s passenger side mirror clipped the man. Another southbound truck then struck him. He was critically injured.
Neither driver was suspected of using drugs or alcohol, Francis said. Both had swerved to try to avoid a collision. They are not expected to be cited.
The injured man is described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
At the time of the crash, he was wearing a blue-and-black backpack and using a walking stick.
