Republican Rob McKenna may be out of political office but he’s not done with politics.
Today, the former attorney general and GOP candidate for governor launched a new political website which he describes as a place where people can keep track of him and his wife while debating ideas for improving the way state government operates.
“Our purpose is to look for and then publicize examples and ideas that will make our state government smarter – because a more efficient and less expensive government will allow your tax dollars to go to the state’s highest priorities, starting with public education,” McKenna wrote in a blog post.
McKenna, who lost the 2012 race for governor to Democrat Jay Inslee, “wanted to have a platform to continue to remain involved in public policy debates,” said Randy Pepple, who managed McKenna’s campaign and is running the new site.
“It is not a political campaign site,” Pepple said.
McKenna isn’t running for governor in 2016. He informed GOP leaders earlier this year. And this morning he reiterated his decision in a radio interview, Pepple said.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Washington State Democratic Party issued a press release mocking the web site.
“Just last week my wife asked me, ‘Honey, what are Rob’s latest ideas for producing a leaner, more effective state government?’,” wrote party chairman Dwight Pelz. “Thank God now I have an answer for her, so I can get back to watching sports on TV.”
