Big Read event: Honoring our veterans with a Memorial Day celebration and book discussion

Lynnwood: VFW Post No. 1040 Memorial Day Celebration, 11 a.m., Lynnwood Veterans Park, 19300 44th Ave. W.

  • Book discussion, “The Things They Carried,” 2 p.m. Vietnam veterans from the VFW Post No. 1040 will be on hand to share their war experiences.

    Arlington: American Legion Post No. 76 Memorial Day parade and dedication ceremony; 6 a.m. flags posted at Arlington Cemetery, 20310 67th Ave. NE; 7 a.m. breakfast for volunteers, 115 N. Olympic Ave.; 10 a.m. parade, on North Olympic Avenue; ceremony, 11 a.m.

  • Arlington Cemetery ceremony, noon, Pioneer Cemetery at E. Fifth Street and N. Gifford Avenue; 5 p.m., flags taken down.

    Edmonds: Ceremony, 11 a.m., Edmonds Memorial Cemetery, 820-15th St. SW. Refreshments will be served. Sign language translation provided.

    Everett: Everett Elks Lodge No. 479, Everett Emblem No. 523 and Boy Scouts Troop No. 1 will place 3,000 flags on graves of veterans for Memorial Day weekend. Breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m., 2802 Hoyt Ave., Everett. $8 benefits Christmas food basket fund. 425-252-4179.

  • Snohomish County Central Memorial Committee ceremony, 11 a.m., Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, 4504 Broadway, Everett. Lunch, 12:30 p.m. Fleet Reserve, Branch No. 170, 6802 Beverly Blvd. $5. 425-258-4201.

    Langley: Whidbey Island Veteran’s Resource Center Memorial Day tribute, 1:30 p.m., Langley Middle School, 723 Camano Ave. Informal discussion and snacks follow a two-hour program.

    Mill Creek: Veterans Monument dedication ceremony, 10 a.m., Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway.

    Sultan: Veterans of Foreign Wars Ceremony, 10 a.m., Sultan Cemetery, Cascade View Drive off U.S. 2; community potluck picnic, 1 p.m., gazebo, Fifth and Lewis streets. Sponsored by Gold Bar Red Hats, VFW and the city of Gold Bar.
