A man was injured in a rollover accident on I-405 and a tree was set on fire by lightning in Everett, but Snohomish County apparently escaped major damage from a thunderstorm that moved through the area Sunday afternoon.
Several lightning strikes caused localized, spotty power outages around Everett, said Dave DeMarco, an acting battalion chief with the Everett Fire Department. No major outages were reported, Snohomish County Public Utility District spokesman Neil Neroutsos said.
The tree, in the 4700 block of View Drive, was struck about 3:30, DeMarco said. A few hours later, after the fire was out, it fell and nearly hit a house, he said.
A 55-year-old man was injured when his car flipped over the right guardrail on the ramp from southbound I-5 to I-405 and rolled over, Lynnwood firefighter Dave Strachan said.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the 5:30 p.m. accident but his injuries were minor, Strachan said.
