NORTH BEND — Rescuers have found missing Edmonds teacher Kimberly Haines and her dog, Rainey.
The King County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Haines just before 2 p.m. Thursday and retrieved her and the dog by helicopter.
Thursday afternoon, Haines’ husband, Chris, posted a message on Facebook, saying she was being checked out at a hospital.
“She’s really scraped and banged up, but otherwise in super shape and cracking jokes,” he said.
He said she fell down a rock face after getting lost and spent the past several days by a lake eating blueberries.
The couple’s dog “guarded her like a champ” while munching on old mountain goat horns, he said.
“Thank you all for the love and support,” he added.
Haines joined the Edmonds School District in 2001 and was at Edmonds Elementary until 2014. She has been at Maplewood Parent’s Co-op for the past three years.
“I can’t tell you how much relief there is in this building alone, much less with households across the district,” said Debbie Joyce Jakala, Edmonds School District spokeswoman. “The number of students and staff she’s touched is huge.”
“Amazing relief. We couldn’t be happier for what her family is feeling right now,” Jakala said.
Haines, who is in her 40s, was reported missing after a scheduled hike Sunday at Mount Teneriffe near North Bend. Her family called police when she did not return.
Her car was found at the trailhead.
Searchers used cellphone tracking technology as well as horses, a helicopter and off-road vehicles to find Haines.
