MONROE – Mayor Robert Zimmerman has proposed at tonight’s City Council meeting to lay off 10 city employees including three patrol officers and three others in the police department.
The City Council is debating the issue now and have already decided to cut $130,000 that the city gives to the YMCA. That will save three of the positions, but the patrol officers are still on the chopping block.
The city has 24 police officers and detectives. If the council agrees to the layoffs, the city would employ 21 sworn officers.
