MONROE — Deputy Police Chief Cherie Harris is leaving Monroe to take a new post at the Kirkland Police Department.

Harris served at Monroe for 16 years, police officials said. She participated in many community groups and fundraisers.

In 2010, she was grand marshal in the Monroe Fair Days Parade.

Harris has been known as a dedicated and passionate deputy chief, police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. Her last day with Monroe police is scheduled for Feb. 29.
