MUKILTEO — Twenty Mukilteo-area students spent a night last week Christmas shopping, courtesy of local police.
The Mukilteo Police Department on Dec. 19 hosted “Shop With A Cop,” an annual charity event.
Children from Endeavour, Columbia, Mukilteo and Olivia Park elementary schools, and the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, participated in the event.
Off-duty officers, emergency dispatchers and other police staff took the kids to the Fred Meyer store on 164th Street SW, department spokesman Colt Davis said. Each child got to spend $125.
The money came from community donations, and included a partial match from the store, Davis said.
The kids picked out all kinds of things, including bicycles, he said. Some purchased presents for their parents, such as slippers and potted plants.
The kids rode in police cars and fire vehicles on the way to the store.
“It was an awesome day,” Davis said. “It was just great to interact with the kids and to give something back to the community.”
