TACOMA — A 20-year-old woman accused of opening fire on three men in a small grocery store last August has been charged with first-degree murder after one of the wounded men died.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist upgraded the charge against Laura Sorenson on Friday. A not guilty plea was entered during her re-arraignment. Her $1.5 million bail is unchanged.

The News Tribune reported that victim David Long died of his injuries in October. Lindquist said his office waited to file the murder charge in order to review all the medical examiner’s reports.

Sorenson has pleaded not guilty to one attempted murder count and one assault charge. Prosecutors said she walked into a market in the Pierce County town of Wauna on Aug. 11, armed with a .357 magnum revolver, and started shooting at the men.

Court records indicate she has a history of mental illness.
