EVERETT — A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System is planned for 11 a.m. Nov. 9.
The test is organized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission and the National Weather Service.
The broadcasts are planned for television, radio and satellite radio outlets around the country. The test messages could last up to three and a half minutes.
Officials are asking people not to call 911 during the test.
In the past, people have mistaken the tests for an emergency and called 911. Those calls can overwhelm local dispatchers and delay responses to real emergencies.
