Marysville’s newest high school is emerging on a hill.
The elevator shafts and foundation walls are being installed at Marysville Getchell High School.
Construction remains ahead of schedule on the $96 million school.
“Things are going very well,” said John Bingham, capital projects director for the Marysville School District. “The biggest challenge was getting our site work done because that’s when you get surprises. The majority of our site work is done.”
Steel is already beginning to arrive at the site, with the largest pieces expected in January. Once that arrives, crews will begin to erect the school’s walls.
Marysville Getchell is scheduled to open in 2010 with four distinct learning communities that focus on specific career tracts and function as schools within a school. Marysville-Pilchuck High School will play host to the remaining learning communities.
Plans call for the school to be 193,000 square feet.
Voters approved a bond in 2006 to pay most of the construction costs. The state is scheduled to pick up $16.8 million.
