Phyllis Hawkins of Everett writes: The corner of 110th Street SE and 23rd Drive SE in south Everett could really use a crosswalk, even two. It is a “T” intersection, with stop signs. It is near an elementary school, and there are over a dozen new houses being built near the intersection, as well as 100 condominiums about two blocks away.
Fay Lim, a spokesperson for Snohomish County Public Works, responds: To be recognized and accepted as good engineering practice and for safety reasons, a crosswalk is only provided to enable pedestrians to cross a road where there is a walkable shoulder, walkway or sidewalk on both sides of the road. This is not the case at 110th Street SE and 23rd Drive SE in south Everett. Snohomish County will evaluate this area for the potential improvement to the north side of the road at this intersection. Once a walkable path can be installed, then a crosswalk may follow.
