SEATTLE — A judge has found a homeless Seattle man not guilty by reason of insanity in the November 2010 hatchet slayings of two strangers.
Superior Court Judge Bill Bowman ordered that Michael LaRosa remain at Western State Hospital, a psychiatric facility where he’s spent much of his time since his arrest.
LaRosa had been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 58-year-old Joseph LaMagno and 64-year-old Dale Richard Holme. The men were attacked one day apart.
In a recent ruling after a bench trial, the judge found that LaRosa had killed the two men but was insane at the time. Bowman also found that LaRosa presents a “substantial danger” to public safety.
LaRosa’s family has said he had long suffered from mental illness before the unprovoked slayings.
