Olympic park chalet on most endangered list

PORT ANGELES — An 83-year-old log cabin teetering on the eroding bank of the Quinault River in Olympic National Park was added this week to the state list of most endangered historical properties.

The Enchanted Valley Chalet is included in the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual list.

Built in 1930, the chalet was used as a lodge, summer ranger station and emergency shelter. It’s located in the southwest corner of the park, 13 miles up the Graves Creek trail in the Enchanted Valley.

The Kitsap Sun reports four other additions to the most endangered list are an art deco-style fire hall in Port Angeles, downtown Sprague near Spokane, the Thayer Barn in Duvall and the Oysterville historic district in Pacific County.
