Three Dog Night once said, “One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do.”
But one, for the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, is the magic number when they host the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. today at Qwest Field in what could be a Super Bowl preview.
The Seahawks have already clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs and are guaranteed to host a second-round game, but they have not yet clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
But one Seahawks win or one Chicago Bears loss during the final two weeks of the regular season will make Seattle the No. 1 seed in the National Football Conference, ensuring that the Seahawks will not have to travel during the playoffs – that is, until they take off for Detroit for Super Bowl XL on Feb. 5.
The first round of playoffs will be Jan. 7 and 8, during which the Seahawks won’t play.
Seattle will host a second-round game the weekend of Jan. 14 and 15.
The NFC championship game, which will be played in Seattle on Jan. 22 if the Seahawks are the top seed in the conference and win their second-round game, will decide who goes to the Super Bowl.
The Seahawks have had a significant home-field advantage all season and are one of only two teams in the National Football League with a perfect 7-0 record at home. Today’s final regular season home game is sold out.
Playoff tickets will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Jan. 9. Season ticketholders and those who put down deposits on season tickets for 2006 can buy playoff tickets now.
