ABERDEEN — Part of a state prison near Aberdeen has been placed on lockdown after a series of fights.

State Corrections Department spokeswoman Sheri Izatt says no staff members or inmates at Stafford Creek Corrections Center have been seriously injured.

Both medium-custody units were locked down Thursday. The fights started Tuesday night.

The spokeswoman says the five minimum-custody units are on modified lockdown, meaning inmates are allowed limited movement while staff members investigate.

The first fight happened in the gym. Prison administrators imposed the lockdown shortly before noon Thursday after two more fights. The inmates involved were moved to a segregation unit.

Stafford Creek houses about 2,000 offenders in minimum-, medium- and maximum-custody units.
