MARYSVILLE — A Seattle man, 27, is accused of stealing multiple cars in Snohomish County on Friday and hitting one of the victims with a piece of wood to get away.
He was found later that night, hiding in the trunk of a car in the parking lot of the Marysville Walmart. He was wanted by police in Marysville, Lake Stevens and Granite Falls, along with the state Department of Corrections.
The man remained in custody Monday for investigation of multiple crimes, including robbery, attempting to elude and hit-and-run.
Lake Stevens police officer Brandon Fiske had spotted a stolen Ford Mustang about 3:30 p.m. along Market Place. The driver took off, and there was too much traffic to initiate a pursuit, according to Fiske’s report.
Moments later, another officer spotted the Mustang at the intersection of Lundeen Parkway and Highway 204. By then, people were calling 911, saying the Mustang crashed into another car and the driver ran away.
Then Fiske heard a woman yelling from nearby Vernon Road. She said a man jumped her fence and came into her house wielding a baseball bat. She locked herself in a bedroom. He was gone before officers arrived.
Just before 5 p.m., a Ford F-250 was reported stolen from along Sunnyside Boulevard. The victim told deputies the suspect first took another car from the area but got it stuck in a nearby field. The victim had noticed the headlights and went to investigate in his truck. His son also arrived and they chased the suspect around the property before he climbed into the unlocked truck. At some point, the suspect allegedly grabbed a four-foot-long piece of landscaping wood and hit the son in the face.
The son also was dragged trying to stop the suspect from leaving in the truck. He suffered bruises and scratches.
The missing F-250 was spotted about an hour later at the Marysville Walmart. Witnesses said they had seen the man break into another car there, then climb into the trunk. He was treated at the hospital for injuries before being booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The same man also is accused of fleeing from a Marysville officer at the Walmart in early September. A brief pursuit reached speeds of 80 mph on Highway 9 before police called it off.
