OLYMPIA — Some state lawmakers held a special meeting in Olympia on the use of force by police.

Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles of Seattle said police have used some kind of force 13 times in the past six months in Washington.

KOMO News reported she’s particularly concerned about the fatal police shooting of a man with a woodcarving knife in Seattle.

At Monday’s hearing, police chiefs and sheriffs described the hours of training officers receive. Police Academy training officer Bob Bragg said officers are not any more trigger-happy than they’ve been in the past.
