EVERETT — Some 230 unionized employees of Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County went on strike Wednesday, after more than a year of negotiations failed to produce a contract.
The strike is scheduled to last through Friday, said Julie Popper, a spokeswoman for SEIU 1199NW, which represents the workers.
Union members say they are seeking higher wages, more time to spend with patients, and more reasonable on-call time.
In a statement, Mary Beth Walker, a spokeswoman for Providence Seniors and Community Services, said the organization is disappointed that union members chose to strike.
“We would prefer to get back to the bargaining table because we all share the same goal of providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients,” she said.
