PUYALLUP — A Wal-Mart employee and a police dog have been stabbed apprehending a shoplifting suspect in Puyallup.
Police Lt. Dave McDonald said the employee who was stabbed in the side this morning was talking when he was taken to Tacoma General Hospital and is expected to recover.
McDonald told The News Tribune of Tacoma the police dog was seriously injured and is in surgery at a veterinary clinic.
Employees of the store near the South Hill Mall confronted the suspected shoplifter as he was trying to cut through a tarp in the garden department. He had a shopping car full of radios, watches and shoes.
One employee chased the man and was stabbed in a scuffle. The suspect ran off. The police dog found and disarmed him but was stabbed.
