Members of the nonprofit Camano Island Quilters have prepared “comfort quilts” for local hospitals for over 20 years, and provide donations twice a year to the Children’s Center at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
Comfort quilts delivered to the Children’s Center are given to children of all ages who are receiving therapy and training. The most recent delivery of quilts was in early November. On average the quilters deliver about 80 quilts of varying sizes, colors and themes.
“Comfort quilts mean a lot to parents, grandparents, young patients and their siblings. Siblings of patients are often surprised when a quilt is offered to them. It’s so nice to see their face light up as they typically aren’t expecting the attention to be on them,” said Paula Deter, a member of the quilting group.
The quilts are often used in physical therapy group classes as well as by therapists for visual, tactile and intellectual stimulation, clinic staff said.
