Reardon to address business group

EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon is scheduled this morning to make his biggest public appearance since becoming the subject of a months-long criminal investigation that only recently concluded without charges.

All eyes at the breakfast hosted by Economic Alliance Snohomish County are likely to be on how the 41-year-old executive manages his re-entry into the public eye.

Reardon’s speech is expected to be “an overview of activities in the county and things that they’re working on,” Alliance spokesman Patrick Pierce said.

Reardon has mostly kept a low profile since winning a third four-year term in office in November.

A Washington State Patrol investigation into Reardon’s alleged spending on a female companion during out-of-town business trips became public shortly before Reardon’s election victory. The probe ended in June without any charges.

Detectives’ efforts did, however, generate witness interviews and public documents containing damaging information about Reardon’s campaign activities, work behavior and personal life.

Business groups have typically hosted a “state of the county” speech by the executive early in the year. The Economic Alliance has said scheduling conflicts are to blame for pushing the speech back by several months.

This morning’s 7:30 a.m. event at the Everett Golf and Country Club is for paying attendees only. Because it’s occurring in mid-summer, the Alliance is calling it a “county update.”

In recent years, Reardon has used his appearance before the business leaders to make announcements about new ventures coming to the area, county politics and developments in the aerospace industry.

Also at today’s breakfast, Alliance President and CEO Troy McClelland is expected to summarize news from the recently concluded the Farnborough Air Show in England.
