EDMONDS – Employees of a recycling company are mourning the death of a driver killed Wednesday morning when he was run over by his truck.
“We’re very devastated,” Allied Waste Industries spokesman Nels Johnson said.
The company, which picks up curbside recycling in south Snohomish County, is cooperating with police and state investigators to try to determine the accident’s cause.
The driver was a Bothell man, 29. His name was not immediately released pending family notification.
Police were called to the 9100 block of 184th Street NW about 8:15 a.m., Edmonds police Sgt. Don Anderson said.
A neighbor heard a crash and then saw the recycling truck in bushes and the driver on the ground, he said.
No one witnessed the incident, but evidence led police to believe the man was run over by his own truck along the steep street.
Investigators from the Washington State Patrol and the state Department of Labor and Industries are working with Edmonds police to investigate the incident.
The company said that all vehicle operators go through rigorous training and education programs.
It was not immediately known if the truck involved had a history of mechanical problems.
On Wednesday, company representatives remained focused on the loss of life.
“Our hearts and condolences go out to this young man’s family,” corporate spokesman Jim Zeumer said.
