Reward for finding hikers’ killer about to expire

GRANITE FALLS — A reward raised by family and friends of two women gunned down while hiking six years ago in Granite Falls is about to expire.

KOMO-TV reported that the case still has no suspects in the deaths of Mary Cooper and her daughter Susanna Stodden. They died while hiking on Mt. Pilchuck on July 11, 2006.

The husband and father of the victims raised the $20,000 reward for information.

One requirement for setting-up any reward is creating an expiration date, sometimes used as a tactic to pressure people into talking.

David Stodden said he always assumed the crime would be solved at some point and he hasn’t given up. But the $20,000 will be given to the Washington Trails Association and the Seattle Public Library. He has no plans to raise more money.

Investigators said they’re still actively working the case.
